Gingival Abscess

Clinical signs and symptoms of gingival abscess include the following:

  • confined to marginal gingiva, papilla
  • localized
  • foreign object
  • painful
  • rapidly expanding
  • fluctuant in 1 – 2 days
  • PMN’s, edema, vascular enlargement

Treatment of gingival abscess:

  • incision
  • clean the area with warm water
  • dismiss after bleeding stops
  • instruct to rinse with warm water
  • scale the area when symptom free
